Please join us for the 2023 Prairie Urban Farm Orientation Session!
Spring is in the air, seedlings are sprouting under lights and we are getting ready for another season of gardening and supporting our community out at Prairie Urban Farm (PUF).
We would like to invite you to an orientation session where you can learn more about urban agriculture, and PUF. There will also be opportunities to meet other gardeners and renew conversations from past seasons, as well as to take part in a discussion of our ambitions and projects for the coming year.
Bring your ideas with you, there will be opportunities to share them amongst us.
Let us know you are coming by signing up for the orientation via Eventbrite
PUF is a one-acre mixed crop garden located on the University of Alberta’s South Campus. Run by a community of volunteers, and supported by researchers at the University of Alberta, the farm provides skill-building opportunities in alternative, regenerative ways of growing food within the city, and uses the produce grown to support communities access sufficient, safe, and nutritious food.
For the past three years we have also run a small Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) vegetable box program as a fundraiser.
PUF welcomes all would be gardeners, of all abilities. We anticipate volunteer sessions to begin in mid-April, once the snow is off the garden and once things aren’t too muddy. When you come out to the garden a mentor will always be there to guide you in the work that is scheduled to be done and to share their knowledge.
And, our volunteers don’t just dig in the dirt, but help us with construction projects, build our social media presence, engage our partner communities and much more.
Volunteer sessions are on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, and on Saturdays from 1pm-5pm.
